DECLINE OF INDUS VALLEY CIVILIZATION

Q. Describe in detail the reasons for the decline of the Indus Civilization

IVC declined around 1800 BCE but the real reasons behind its demise are still debated. One theory claims that an Indo-European tribe, the Aryans, invaded and conquered the Ivacy. Various elements of IVC are found in later cultures which suggest that civilization did not suddenly disappear because of invasion. On the other hand, many scholars believe that there are natural factors behind the decline of IVC. Natural factors can be geological and climatic. It is believed that the Indus Valley region experienced several tectonic disturbances that cause earthquakes. Who also changed the course of rivers or dried them up. Another natural cause could be a change in the rainfall pattern. Dramatic changes in river flow can also occur, leading to flooding of food-producing areas. A combination of these natural causes resulted in a slow but inevitable decline of the IVC.
