 World breastfeeding week – August 1-7,  2017
World breastfeeding week 2017 is being celebrated from 1st to 7th August 2017 with the theme “Sustaining Breastfeeding Together”.

 Government to end LPG subsidy
  • Govt has ordered state-run oil companies to raise subsidised cooking gas, LPG, prices by Rs.4 per cylinder every month to eliminate all subsidies by March next year.
  • It will be in effect till the reduction of govt subsidy to ‘nil’, or till March next year, whichever is earliest.
  • Every household is entitled to 12 cylinders of 14.2-kg each at subsidised rates in a year
Isro to launch a back-up navigation satelite
  • ISRO will launch its navigation satellite IRNSS-1H by the end of this month to augment the existing 7 satellites of NavIC constellation.
  • IRNSS-1H will be a “back up” navigation satellite for IRNSS-1A as its three rubidium atomic clocks on board had stopped functioning.
  • IRNSS is an independent regional navigation satellite system developed by India on par with US-based GPS.
Arvind Panagariya resigns
  • Arvind Panagariya has resigned as the vice-chairman of NITI Aayog.
  • He will return to academia in US & August 31 will be his last day in office.
  • He was 1st vice-chairman of NITI Aayog.
  • He has been chief economist of Asian Development Bank & professor of economics & co-director, Center for International Economics, University of Maryland.

RCEP trade negotiating Committee meeting held in Hyderabad
19th round of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) Trade Negotiating Committee (TNC) meetings and other related meetings were held from 17th to 28th July 2017 in Hyderabad, India.
i. The Meeting was inaugurated by Rita Teaotia, Secretary, Department of Commerce, Government of India on 24 July 2017.
ii. During the 19th round, parallel meetings were held by the three main Working Groups on Trade in Goods, Trade in Services and Investment, including their respective Sub-Working Groups.

Delhi Metro Declared as World’s first Green Metro
i. The Delhi Metro Railway Corporation (DMRC) was recently declared as the world’s first green metro after it added a green certification for all its major buildings and installations. DMRC was also awarded the platinum rating for its 10 residential colonies for adherence to green building norms by the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC).
ii. The declaration was made during National Conference on Green Metro Systems by the IGBC.

SC bans use of five metals in Firecrackers
The Supreme Court has imposed a ban on the use of five harmful heavy metals like lithium, antimony, mercury, arsenic and lead in the manufacturing of firecrackers as they cause air and noise pollution.

Airtel Payments Bank ties up with HPCL
  • Airtel Payments Bank has entered into partnership with Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited to give further boost to digital payments in the country.
  • All 14,000 HPCL fuel stations will act as banking points for Airtel Payments Bank.
  • Bank customers will be able to make secure and convenient digital payments for fuel purchases across 14,000 HPCL fuel stations by using their mobile phones
Government enters into 9 unilateral APAs
  • Central Board of Direct Taxes entered into 9 Unilateral Advance Pricing Agreements with taxpayers during July.
  • APA Scheme aims to provide certainty to taxpayers in domain of transfer pricing by specifying methods of pricing & determining Arm’s Length Price of international transactions in advance for a maximum period of 5 future years.
  • 18 UAPAs have been signed in current financial year.

PM Modi announces Rs.2,350 crore relief package for floods in North East region
The Prime Minister, Narendra Modi has announced a package of Rs 2350 crore for relief, rehabilitation and building flood mitigation infrastructure in the flood-affectedNorth-Eastern states including Assam on 1st August 2017.

Ustad Sayeeduddin Dagar dies aged 78
  • Ustad Hussain Sayeeduddin Dagar, maestro & custodian of Dhrupad tradition of Hindustani classical music and a member of eminent Dagar family, passed away aged 78 in Pune.
  • Known as ‘Saeed Bhai’, he was the youngest among the 8 famous Dagar brothers.

Summer Olympics Host

Paris will host the 2024 Summer Olympics GamesLos Angeles will host the 2028 Summer Olympic.
